best running routes
For DC runners living on Capitol Hill, the National Mall is your best running route.
Less than a mile from Eastern Market Metro station, it's a straight shot to some of the best running this city has to offer: wide dirt trails, minimal traffic, and views of the Monuments that people travel from around the world to see. This 4 miler starts and ends at Eastern Market and passes the Library of Congress, the Capitol, and the Smithsonian. The route is mostly flat, with a downhill going from the Capitol to the Mall (just before the 1 mile Dt5FW6a9x mark), and an uphill on the return (just before mile 3). This route can easily be lengthened by running further down the Mall and around the Washington Monument, or shortened by turning at third street. Go here for a bigger view of the the map.
